Like the image says, “join earth hour. Switch off your lights for 60 minutes on 29th March and stop global warming before it’s too late”
Apparently, people are ignorant to the true intentions behind earth day. It was a mere trend. Those who do not comply this “social rule” are considered to be rude, not in tune, unappreciative of mother earth and literally daft, deaf or plain ignorant. Criticisms soon surfaces from the good people of ol’ mother earth how Menara Umno and some big buildings forgot to turn their lights out at 8pm and did the exact opposite, blast em up for a small function etc. etc. etc.
The misconception here, is how switching off your lights for 1 hour can stop the world from the greenhouse effect. In my opinion those who had something to say about these people who forgot to turn off their lights had no idea in mind what was earth hour all about.
NO. turning off your lights won’t elevate the green house effect. NO, It may even make it worse. How? I was having dinner at a restaurant which observed earth hour – with candles. Now, it became apparent that there is a new fire hazard and a big fire would go a long way to emitting more green house gasses… no?
Then these jokes decided, hey lets screw that and lets do more and lets have earth hour week! Lets turn off our lights for an hour for a whole week. We’ll conserve more! (Might as well say hey! Lets turn off our brains and leave it to dry – and hopefully we’ll die – so we’ll emit less pollution for the planet earth) Please, go exercise your right to ‘life’ and commit suicide. Do us all a favour, mother nature too.
These critics come from the uneducated people of the lower kind – the purest breed of idiots since the dawn of the Malaysian politicians. Turning off the lights doesn’t help much in elevating greenhouse effects. Getting into your cars, during earth hour, getting stuck in the jam – coz all the lights are out and the people are slowing down to take in the sights causes a significant increase in the greenhouse effect. Not to mention turning off lights – would cost us commercially (in its broader sense) and staff staying overtime to make up for that loss = burning more energy.
Fact – In Malaysia we predominantly use hydropower and some countries use nuclear power energy (what greenhouse effect?)
Fact – In Kuala Lumpur and surrounding states we do not incinerate our trash. We bury em deep. (what greenhouse effect?)
Fact - In Malaysia we do no need heating (unless you're some loco idiot and feel that its not hot enough here) - so less burning of firewood, coal etc. (what greenhouse effect?)
The true intentions of earth hour were to remind us to conserve energy. Use less energy. Turn on less lights, Use LEDs, use less water, try to carpool, plant more trees, don’t destroy the forest to build Bakun dams, watch where we put that trash, support Shell's renewable energy move, recycle more.
It’s sole purpose is to raise awareness. Not save mother earth by turning off your lights and blasting em the very next hour.
